Decoding the Safety Net: The Power of Verification and Validation (V&V)

Behind every smoothly running smartphone app, self-driving car, and life-saving medical device lies a rigorous, unseen engine of quality assurance. In engineering and computer science, this foundational safeguard is known as V&V—short for Verification and Validation.

Though they are often spoken of as a single hyphenated concept, verification and validation are two distinct processes. Together, they act as the ultimate truth-tellers of product development, answering two very different questions about what we build: Are we building the product right? and Are we building the right product?

Part 1: Verification — Are We Building the Product Right?

Verification is an internal check. It evaluates whether a system, software, or component complies with its specified requirements, design blueprints, and engineering rules.
