The Truth About “Midjourney Gratis”: Navigating Free AI Art Generation

When it comes to cutting-edge artificial intelligence image generators, Midjourney sits comfortably at the top of the mountain. Known for its breathtaking, hyper-realistic, and painterly outputs, it has captured the imaginations of artists, designers, and hobbyists alike.

Naturally, a tool this powerful triggers a universal question: Is there a Midjourney gratis (free) version?

If you are hunting the web for a way to use Midjourney without opening your wallet, the reality is a bit more nuanced than a simple “yes” or “no.” Let’s break down the current status of Midjourney’s pricing, what “gratis” options actually exist, and how you can navigate AI art generation without breaking the bank.

1. Is Midjourney Still Free? The Short Answer

No, Midjourney does not offer a general free tier or trial on its main website or Discord server.

In the early days of its public beta, Midjourney offered a generous free trial that allowed users to generate a couple of dozen images for free. However, due to overwhelming global demand and widespread trial abuse, that promotion was suspended.

Today, Midjourney operates strictly on a subscription model, with plans starting at around $10 per month. There are no permanent free tiers, and creating a standard account on midjourney.com will require a paid plan before you can start rendering your imaginations into reality.

2. The Exception: The Niji · Journey App Loophole

While the main web and Discord platforms are strictly pay-to-play, there is a minor exception noted in Midjourney’s official documentation: limited free trials occasionally pop up through the mobile ecosystem.

• The Niji · Journey App: Midjourney officially operates a companion app geared toward anime and illustration styles called Niji · Journey (available for iOS and Android).
• The Catch: While a limited trial format has sometimes been supported through this specific mobile app, availability fluctuates, it does not transfer over to the desktop website or Discord, and it is heavily restricted compared to a full membership.

If you stumble upon articles or videos claiming you can unlock unlimited free Midjourney generations via third-party hacks or secret Discord bypasses, proceed with extreme caution—these are frequently scams or phishing attempts designed to steal your credentials.
