Where is Song Yiren Now? The Career Shift and Current Status of the Chinese Actress

For fans of Chinese dramas, Song Yiren (also known as Ireine Song) became a recognizable face through her charming performances in youth romances and historical fantasy hits. Best known for her breakout role as the resilient Sang Sang in the blockbuster series Ever Night (2018), Song steadily built a filmography featuring popular titles like The Best of You in My Mind and Professional Single.

However, following a turbulent period in late 2025, her career trajectory underwent a sudden and massive shift. Here is a comprehensive look at what happened to Song Yiren and where she stands now.

The 2025 Controversy and Industry Backlash

Song’s current industry standing shifted drastically in September 2025 following the tragic passing of Chinese actor Yu Menglong, who died after a fall from a residential building in Beijing.

In the wake of the tragedy, unverified online rumors, social media speculation, and conspiracy theories began circulating on platforms like Weibo and Douban. Various unconfirmed gossip lists and videos falsely attempted to tie several entertainment figures—including Song Yiren—to the social gathering surrounding the incident.

Despite official police findings ruling out criminality, the online backlash was swift:

• Digital Erasure & “High-Risk” Status: Netizens mass-reported projects associated with the rumors. Song’s profile on platforms like Douban experienced temporary restrictions, placing her into an unofficial “high-risk” category often assigned to figures facing intense public controversies.
• Project Postponements: Works tied to her name faced immediate scrutiny, with projects like Unmet Clouds, Unmet You being pulled from platforms shortly after release, and variety show appearances being edited out.

Song Yiren’s Response

Amid mounting speculation and a flood of critical comments on her social media channels, Song Yiren broke her silence. She published a detailed, long-form post addressing the rumors head-on:

• She firmly denied being present at the scene of the tragedy, stating that she, like the general public, only learned of the accident the following morning.
• She clarified that while she had previously rented a property in the same residential complex, she had moved out nine months prior to the incident.
• She expressed the immense psychological toll and heavy pressure the unverified rumors had placed on her.

Where Is She Now?

As the entertainment landscape continues to navigate the aftermath, Song’s public presence has dropped significantly compared to her peak broadcast years. While wild, unverified internet rumors (ranging from unconfirmed disappearance theories to unfounded claims) frequently surface on fringe social media channels, no credible mainstream reports validate them.

Instead, her career remains in a cooling-off period. While older completed dramas and archival roles remain part of her public digital footprint, her active participation in new mainstream mainstream media productions has been heavily constrained by the digital fallout of late 2025. For now, Song Yiren remains largely out of the spotlight, stepping back from public view while dealing with the long-term career repercussions of the viral controversies.
